Best value in Portugal

Updated: Apr 25, 2020

From Oct 2017: My friend Ioana and I made a day trip to Sintra. We were lost looking for a place for lunch and found ourselves outside Taberna Criativa. A gentleman who was waiting to be served his lunch on the patio noticed us. He raised his glass of wine and said to us, "(the) best value in Portugal." So, we were encouraged to try the place.

Although the patio was full, we received a table inside easily and choose the 3-course lunch menu. I learnt later that their name means 'creative food' but at the time we literally had no idea. They had a vegetarian option and, by default, I chose that. The 3-course menu came with a soup, an entrée, a dessert, and a glass of house wine. I remember my dessert was something with coffee in it and it was really good. The guess the best part was my entrée because that's the only picture I shot at the place.

How creative is this? My vegetarian entrée.

Did I say "the best part" already? This was one of the few places where it is difficult to choose the best part. Everything from the service to the dessert was amazing. Perhaps, the best part was the bill, which was around €25 for both of us. The place continued to impress us till the very end.

We only stayed in Sintra for a day but talked about this place for the rest of our travel in Lisbon and Porto. We talked about taking the train from Lisbon to Sintra just to have another lunch here. Yesterday, Ioana reached out to me asking whether I remember this restaurant's name and I knew I have to write about it. I hope I get to visit this place again.

Here's the Google Maps link for Taberna Criativa:
